Chocolate Tasting 101
Written by Anthony Cristello
Sunday, 18 April 2010 21:32

Heavenly chocolate! Some of us crave white, some milk and then there are those that like it dark. I myself am bitter sweet (at least my wife says so) but enough about me and let us get onto Chocolate Tasting 101.
On the rainy afternoon of January 24, 2010 while so many faithful fans watched the Jets get slaughtered, NNJR members had the opportunity to partake in a special dark chocolate tasting experience hosted by our very own NNJR members Susan and Matt Fine. Susan is the proprietor of The Chocolate Path located in Montclair, New Jersey. After completing the not-so-simple task of picking out a few wines that would be paired with select chocolates, Susan put together a chocolate lover’s delight. A seven course tasting extravaganza

Concours April 2010 - Choosing the Correct Car Cover
Written by Craig Ploetner

You lovingly wash and wax your vehicle on most sunny weekends, spending time detailing every single blotch, nick, scrape, or other damaging mark on your car's exterior. Part of the deal with owning any vehicle is making certain that it looks its best week in and week out. Still, you may not be doing all that you can to protect the finish. Other enemies including bird excrement, acid rain, and even harmful UV rays can thwart the best efforts of even the most diligent car owner. Fortunately, there is one automotive accessory that can help keep your car clean, provided you use it when your car is parked for an extended length of time. What am I talking about? Car covers!

The Backside of the Cone March 2010
Written by Tom DePascale & Tom Iervolino

Picture this: It’s a late night in March 2011. The events of 2010 still swirling in you head. It is a cold night, pouring rain, the wind howling, it begins to sleet, {no you’re not at Pocono One, get back into the moment,} your fumbling for the keys of your brand new GT3. You are in a vast, freshly paved parking lot, it seems to have no end in sight.  There is only one other car in the lot, could it be? It looks like a 356 but could it be, no it couldn’t be the number one. There is a man, tall, well maybe not so tall, dressed in a trench coat standing next to it, with his back towards you. You begin to walk over and hear a phone ring, the man answers, and you hear: Tom it’s me, we got trouble, big trouble. The Usual Suspects, round them up, they got some explaining to do. He hops into the mystery 356 and roars off, taillights fading into the late night’s rain.

Shade Tree Swap & Shop 2010
Written by Andy Gisonna
Sunday, 14 March 2010 22:45

It has been a long standing NNJR tradition. We kicked off our 2010 season with the Annual Swap Meet at Shade Tree Garage in Morristown. Some came to make room and money by selling. Others came to add to their stuff or find a bargain. Some came to see NNJR friends and talk about the upcoming driving season. It has always been a great excuse to get everyone together and see what you can buy or sell. Every space was taken by something Porsche; be it seats, wheels, tires, shirts or model cars.  Some members had brand new items that they practically gave away. I wish it was something I needed. We also had a limited number of Porscherama travel mugs for sale. If you missed out, I think Marlys has a few stashed away; a bargain at $5.00 each. Yes we had it all, including 611 and HoosierDaddy.

On Track March 2010
Written by Craig Mahon NNJR Vice President
Sunday, 14 March 2010 22:50

Believe it or not, spring will be here in a few short weeks. That can mean only one thing; the 2010 track season is just around the corner. Registration for our inaugural 2010 Driver Education event at Lime Rock Park is now open and will close on March 31. If you have not driven Lime Rock since the completion of the repaving, you are in for a treat. Gone is the dip near the apex at the turn entering the front straight which gave even the bravest drivers a considerable feeling of unease. The concrete patches in Big Bend, which used to loosen your fillings, have been replaced with smooth asphalt. The undulating surface of No-Name Straight was like shooting the rapids in a raft, but now there are no more white-caps. The repaving plus needed safety improvements were made financially possible by the owner of the track, Skip Barber, selling memberships to refurbish the track. The monies

Welcome to NNJR Concours 2010
Written by Craig Ploetner
Sunday, 14 March 2010 22:33

As a new year unfolds, we look forward to another great NNJR Concours season. But first, it is necessary to look back at the accomplishments of the previous Concours Co-Chairs, Hank Menkes and Ben Rasmussen. These two distinguished Concours veterans advanced the program for the past two years. They piloted us though some great changes with NNJR Concours and a terrifically successful Zone 1 event held in Parsippany NJ.  Hank and Ben’s dedication to our hobby was personified in the great workshops and intricately written articles that gave even the most novice of detailers the path to producing a Concours winning car. They have set the bar very high, and I look forward to continuing the quality and content of the program Hank and Ben championed.
