Concours 2010 – Drive-Bi-Event
Written by Craig Ploetner

Our first judged event was held at Schooleys Mountain Park on May 2. Many of you received my e-mail regarding concerns of potential attendance. As luck would have it, the weather was on our side and the event turned out to be a great success. With 22 cars on the field we had a great representation of all years and models as well as a strong turn out for Novice participants.
I pulled into the park at about 7:30am to a light rain and potential 80 degree temperatures. At this point I was concerned if the Concours participants would take out there perfectly polished treasures with this weather forecast. My faith in the NNJR membership was once again reaffirmed when slowly the sound of flat six cylinder engines echoed up the park entrance. A short time later the parking lot was filled with beautiful 356’s, 911’s, 928’s, Boxsters, and Caymans. The event was officially in full swing.

PANAMERA/997 TURBO TECH

There are some of us who when we were young liked to take things apart just to see how they work. Sometimes we broke it, but the purpose was to satisfy a curiosity. In this case we did not get to take Porsches apart but we did get a nice look at some of the technological marvels that happen on the Panamera and 997 Gen II Turbo. Back in April we visited Flemington Porsche for just that opportunity. We were greeted by Bob Wonsetler (Sales) along with John Nelson (Sales) and Doug Mathewson (Sales Manager) for some late bagels and coffee. The guys handed out raffle tickets before we headed to the Service Department.

Did anyone see 611? Well, Tom and I pulled off our first Autocross event, phew!!
First, we want to thank all the volunteers who pitched in and made it all happen, made us look good, and covered all our mistakes. Thanks gang: you guys and gals are the best. This first event was held at the PNC South lot, which really needs some work. Nonetheless, Bill Gilbert set a course that was not only challenging and fun, but missed all the major pot-holes. We thank you… and my suspension thanks you. Did anyone see 611?

On Track - May 2010
Written by Craig Mahon NNJR Vice President

The month of May marks NNJR’s first visit to New Jersey Motosports Park this season with a solo driver event on both Lightning and Thunderbolt on May 17 and 18, respectively. Registration is now open for Mid Ohio (June 4-6) and Pocono (June 25-26). Thunderbolt (July 9-11) opens mid-month and Mosport (July 23-25) opens at the end of May. I hope you are planning to attend several or all of these events. I would like to call special attention to the event at Pocono. While both days are open to all drivers, Friday June 25 will be “Ladies Day” and will include a ladies-only run group. This will be a great opportunity to give Driver Education a test drive in a low-stress, low-testosterone atmosphere. There will be

The Driver Education program is now in full swing. I survived my first event at Lime Rock as Track Chair (more on that later) and by the time you read this, we will have completed a solo event at New Jersey Motorsports Park and will be en route to Mid Ohio for a three-day event June 4-6. Registration is now open for Thunderbolt and Mosport with Watkins Glen I opening June 18. Pocono/Ladies Day closes on June 11. Friday June 25 will be “Ladies Day” at Pocono and will include a ladies-only run group. Friday June 25 and Saturday June 26 will be open to all regular run groups. This will be a great opportunity for the ladies to give Driver Education a test drive in a low-stress atmosphere and enjoy a nice dinner sponsored by Paul Miller Porsche. This will be our only visit to Pocono this year, so if you haven’t signed up yet, time is running short.

Concours 2010: Off and Running
Written by Craig Ploetner
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 01:04

The beginning of the 2010 NNJR Concours season has started with a bang. The Gathering of the Faithful had over 75 participants and The Paterek Brothers workshop knocked it out of the park with roughly 100 Porsche enthusiasts in attendance. This leads me to believe there is a serious appetite for knowledge on proper car care. The next workshop will be held at Ray Catena’s service facility on June 13.  Our first judged event of the season will be the Drive-Bi-Event held at Schooleys Mountain Park. I will fill everyone in on this event in the next issue.

Calling All Competitors: The Season Has Begun

Taking over the reigns of the NNJR PCA Autocross Program was no easy task and now that our season is fully underway, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us get this program up and running. There is a tremendous amount of behind the scenes work that goes into getting the program off the ground. The help provided by our previous chairs, volunteers and several most experienced Board of Governors members has made our transition into the 2010 season flawless. We cannot stress how important the continued support of our volunteer base is and how greatly appreciated it is by all involved. Without the volunteer support, the program would undoubtedly fail. So as
