Hello everyone! This is the Tom-and-Tom Team. We are your new Autocross Co-Chairs (gulp) and we want to introduce ourselves and to kick off the 2010 season with a big hello. First, we want to thank Drew for his leadership and for making the last couple of Autocross seasons so enjoyable and successful. Tom and I had so much fun and made so many new friends that we decided to jump in this year and take the reins for 2010.
Secondly, we want to thank all the dedicated volunteers who worked so hard to make these events possible. Their support in ensuring that everything that needs to happen does actually happen is vital to pulling off a successful event. Tom and I are real AutoX enthusiasts, but we are novices in running these events and will need all the help, guidance and support we can get. Thanks in advance to all the returning volunteers and for any of you that want to pitch in and help. Currently, we are working on the schedule and will be posting dates as soon as we can. In the meantime, if any of you notice a nice big parking lot that is empty on Saturdays or Sundays, please let us know. So: let us get down to business. First we want to dispel all rumors about $5 two-second cones and $25 FTD’s. This is completely false, as cones will cost $10 and FTD’s $50. These costs will go up as the season progresses, the competition becomes a bit more serious and the number of AutoX’s to collect Championship points become fewer. Please bring cash as Marlys Thovson will not allow checks for this new 2010 feature. Drew, our new Treasurer, also mumbled something about tax issues……… Another new feature for the year will be the “Terminator Cone”. This will be a concrete cone placed indiscriminately somewhere on the course. Robert “611’s Gonna Getcha” Ida will be in charge of the placement of this cone. This “Terminator Cone” will likely be used in areas where we really want you to slow down. I have also been informed by Dennis Thovson that the fiber optic cables that we use for timing will now be protected by razor wire. It was getting a bit tiring worrying about people walking on or running over these expensive cables. There is some other device Dennis is working on this winter that will incentivize us not to walk through the timing lights this coming season. Not sure what it is, but I am sure it will be fun. Oh, and there will be a new approach for Tech. Tom DePascale will have a few of the “boys from the office” handle Tech for us this year. He was saying something about getting busted for illegal modification to your car and on-the-spot Judge/Jury/Trial activities in the parking lot. Cash will also be accepted for these penalties and fines. Well, that’s all for now as Tom and I need to get back to work installing the ATM machine in the trailer. I am sure all of you are as excited as we are about this new 2010 season. So get going on all your winter projects and get ready for a fun 2010 AutoX season! See you all soon. Tom and Tom |
