Hard to believe that it is August and the Driver Ed season is more than half over. Our Thunderbolt and Mosport events were completed in July and we are now looking forward to Watkins Glen in a few weeks. Registration for the September event at Lightning and advanced/solo event at Watkins Glen are now open and Monticello opens August 7. Monticello is a local Sat/Sun event, so sign up early. The first week of June was our annual trek to Mid Ohio, one of the best road courses in the country. I consider myself very lucky to arrive at the track the night before the event with a working car, so allow me to rewind a week to explain. |

No one can say that NNJR’s Driver Education does not offer enough choices. Registration is still open for Mosport, an event that is co-sponsored with UCR (Upper Canada Region). One of our premier events of the year, Watkins Glen August 13-15, is now open and registration for our September 3-5 trip to Lightning opens July 12. While driver registration is now closed for the July 9-11 event at Thunderbolt at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, I do want to invite non-participants to the track on Saturday, July 10. For only $35, you can see the track first hand by taking several touring laps (55 mph limit) at the end of the day and then join us for dinner. This event is dubbed “Shockwave at the Bolt”, and for good reasons - we will have a live band, Soulfinger Live, a nice dinner, and tee-shirts for all attendees! Just send me an email at trackchair@nnjr-pca.com to sign-up; we need to know how many people are coming in advance to plan for the dinner. |

The Driver Education program is now in full swing. I survived my first event at Lime Rock as Track Chair (more on that later) and by the time you read this, we will have completed a solo event at New Jersey Motorsports Park and will be en route to Mid Ohio for a three-day event June 4-6. Registration is now open for Thunderbolt and Mosport with Watkins Glen I opening June 18. Pocono/Ladies Day closes on June 11. Friday June 25 will be “Ladies Day” at Pocono and will include a ladies-only run group. Friday June 25 and Saturday June 26 will be open to all regular run groups. This will be a great opportunity for the ladies to give Driver Education a test drive in a low-stress atmosphere and enjoy a nice dinner sponsored by Paul Miller Porsche. This will be our only visit to Pocono this year, so if you haven’t signed up yet, time is running short. |

April has arrived and the 2010 Driver Education program is starting to awaken from hibernation. The end of March marked the close of Lime Rock registration and that event is just weeks away. Registration for a solo driver event at New Jersey Motorsports Park is now open and the registration for Mid Ohio opens April 9. The solo driver event will be a great opportunity to get hours of track time at each of the two venues with just one trip to NJMP. On May 17 we will be at Lightning and on May 18 we will be at Thunderbolt. As many of you know, Mid Ohio is one of my favorite tracks and is also one of the premier road courses in the country. I can assure you it is well worth the approximately 8 hour drive from northern New Jersey. Although, it is not uncommon to hear “it’s too far” as the first reason for not attending events like Mid Ohio, Mosport or VIR, the common reaction once these |

The month of May marks NNJR’s first visit to New Jersey Motosports Park this season with a solo driver event on both Lightning and Thunderbolt on May 17 and 18, respectively. Registration is now open for Mid Ohio (June 4-6) and Pocono (June 25-26). Thunderbolt (July 9-11) opens mid-month and Mosport (July 23-25) opens at the end of May. I hope you are planning to attend several or all of these events. I would like to call special attention to the event at Pocono. While both days are open to all drivers, Friday June 25 will be “Ladies Day” and will include a ladies-only run group. This will be a great opportunity to give Driver Education a test drive in a low-stress, low-testosterone atmosphere. There will be |

Believe it or not, spring will be here in a few short weeks. That can mean only one thing; the 2010 track season is just around the corner. Registration for our inaugural 2010 Driver Education event at Lime Rock Park is now open and will close on March 31. If you have not driven Lime Rock since the completion of the repaving, you are in for a treat. Gone is the dip near the apex at the turn entering the front straight which gave even the bravest drivers a considerable feeling of unease. The concrete patches in Big Bend, which used to loosen your fillings, have been replaced with smooth asphalt. The undulating surface of No-Name Straight was like shooting the rapids in a raft, but now there are no more white-caps. The repaving plus needed safety improvements were made financially possible by the owner of the track, Skip Barber, selling memberships to refurbish the track. The monies |
